Department of Kinesiology

Kinesiology Lab Tour

At the Â鶹ÉäÇø, the Department of Kinesiology is where your passion for health, movement, and human performance turns into a rewarding and impactful career. Our mission is clear: to improve lives through active, healthy living while preparing future leaders in physical education, exercise science, fitness, recreation, health, and sport management.

As a student in our department, you’ll gain a strong academic foundation and hands-on experience guided by expert faculty with diverse backgrounds in research, professional practice, and industry leadership. Many professors are active researchers in our state-of-the-art Human Performance Laboratory and regularly share their expertise at national and international conferences. They also serve as consultants to schools, health centers, hospitals, and wellness organizations, offering students real-world insights and connections that lead to exciting opportunities.

From personalized advising to career support and mentorship, we’re here to help you succeed in the classroom and beyond. Our programs are designed to prepare you for leadership roles or advanced study, with many graduates going on to earn certifications, enter graduate programs, or step confidently into professional careers.

Plus, with initiatives like Healthy UNA—our campus-wide wellness program—you’ll be part of a community that practices what it teaches.

The professors are encouraging us in internships, observations, and other experiential learning opportunities. I think that it’s important to have that perspective, and that's something that I feel has always been instilled in me. The experience, encouragement, drive, and determination that they've given me is immeasurable. My dream after Physical Therapy school is actually to move back to the Shoals and work in a pediatric clinic here. I think that's the biggest testament to the kinesiology department and UNA in general.
